Here is the Older Adult Competency that you will demonstrate:

Work effectively within and across organizational systems to promote quality care for older persons.

Here are components that help build this Organizational Systems competency:

  • Facilitate communication as older adults transition between home and different care settings, with a particular focus on the use of technology.
  • Coordinate care and services to address the needs of older adults and their families/caregivers.
  • Use team skills as a member of an interdisciplinary team in care of older adults.
  • Advocate for older adults using knowledge of core care systems of a health care environment.
  • Advocate within the system for older adults to make their own choices, based on awareness of evidence-based risks.
  • Help older adults and their families negotiate systems to obtain needed resources.
  • Evaluate quality of care commensurate with older adults' vulnerability and frequency and intensity of care needs.
