Communicate effectively, respectfully, and compassionately with older adults and their families/caregivers.

 

Here are components that help build this Communication competency:

  • Use techniques to reduce barriers to communication created by sensory and other physical changes of older adults.

 

  • Adapt communication style based on cognitive changes of older adults.

 

  • Compensate for age-associated sensory and cognitive changes when performing assessments.

 

  • Use effective strategies for teaching older adults.
