Here is the Older Adult Competency that you will demonstrate:

Use appropriate assessments for the functional, physical, cognitive, psychological, social, and spiritual status of older adults.

Here are components that help build this Assessment competency:

  • Select assessment tools based on use for screening, in-depth assessment, or evaluation of interventions.
  • Select assessment tools for areas important to care of older adults, based on characteristics of the older adult and the context of care.
  • Perform physical assessment of older adults, including assessment of sensory status.
  • Recognize atypical presentation of illness in older adults.
  • Recognize normal versus pathological variations from an older adult's baseline assessment.
  • Interpret the results of assessments to provide guidance for planning and evaluating care.
